There are many different Water Based floor finishes available, we have tried most of the top brands, and we feel confidently that Bona HD is the best.  Bona makes 4 or 5 different ones.  Bona Novia, Bona Mega, Bona Natural and Bona HD.  The Bona Traffic was long considered one of the best, but when they upgraded the Traffic to Traffic HD, it became even better.

As when you are choosing wall paint, you usually get what you pay for.  Many flooring contractors will often use the least expensive product.  You can find Water Based floor finish for as little as $40.00/ gallon.  It goes on super thin, and will require 5 or 6 coats to give you what 3 coats of Bona HD will.  If you have ever done much painting, you will know that a more expensive paint will give you better coverage per coat.  The same is true with floor finish.  3 Coats of HD will give you a similar durability that you would normally only see with a Swedish Finish floor.  Bona also offers a line of Sealers that will give you 5 different looks.

Bona Amberseal – This brings out the warm tones in the wood, very similar to the look of a Swedish Finish or Oil Finish floor.

Bona Intenseseal – Great for over stains, this sealer emphasizes the stain color without competing with it.  It is similar to Amberseal, but about half the amber affect.

Bona Classic Seal – This non-ambering sealer is totally clear.

Bona Naturseal – This sealer is meant to make the floor look “unfinished” or as natural as possible.  It has a little bit of white in it to cancel out the color change that you get with most sealers.

Bona Nordic Seal – This very popular sealer gives the floor a “white washed” look that you see in many pre-finished floors.  It can also be combined with Bona’s White Stain to make the floor even lighter.  This has been a popular look.
